Alan Barker is an Associate Professor in Paediatric Physiology and Health at the University of Exeter and co-Director of the Childrens Health and Exercise Research Centre (CHERC). Alans research within CHERC spans four areas: 1) Childrens exercise physiology, outlining how factors such as age, sex, maturation, and body size and composition impact physiological and performance variables; 2) Paediatric exercise medicine, where cardiopulmonary exercise testing and exercise prescription are applied to various paediatric disease groups; 3) Primary prevention of disease, where the association between physical activity and fitness with health outcomes is investigated; and 4) The youth athlete, where research focusses on monitoring the health and wellbeing of youth athletes.
